Family holidays in Nesselwang: 5 amazing mountain experiences that are worth it
Family vacation in Nesselwang in the Allgäu region and special activities in the region. Summer tobogganing at the Alpspitze, hiking on the waterfall trail, and a romantic sunset.
Today, Sandra, Marina, and Sebastian are in Nesselwang, enjoying beautiful sunshine. The day on the mountain starts with an action-packed day at the Alpspitzbahn. Accelerating on the one-kilometer-long summer toboggan run is really fun – for the really fast ones, there are even two jumps. Sandra, Marina, and Sebastian find out how fast they've been at the end of the ride thanks to a speedometer. Those traveling with small children can also take it easy and enjoy the view of the mountains. The Alpspitzbahn Nesselwang summer toboggan run is suitable for children ages 3 and up.
After the action, it's time to explore the nature of the Nesselwang region, and Sandra, Marina, and Sebastian head to the waterfall. The Nesselwang Waterfall Trail is perfect for this, leading hikers to several waterfalls. There are also several lakes along the hiking trail that invite you to swim or relax on the shore.
By the way, Sandra, Marina, and Sebastian completed the main section of the Nesselwang Waterfall Trail, which takes just under four hours, is 9 kilometers long, and climbs 640 meters. The trail is ideal for families with young explorers, as it also includes small, winding paths, where you have to scramble over roots or wade through the water.
On the final few meters of the waterfall trail, Sandra, Marina, and Sebastian are faced with the decision of whether to continue to the castle ruins or complete the hike. They chose the mysterious ruins. Unfortunately, Nesselburg Castle is closed that day, and the gate is locked, but the old stone walls in the middle of the forest still offer a special sight and are particularly inspiring for young explorers.
Returning to the village, they briefly pet the horses in the pasture and then take a break at the Explorer Hotel. In the late afternoon, a sunset tour concludes a wonderful family day in the fresh air in a stunning mountain setting. In the afternoon light, the three climb several flights of stairs to the waterfalls once more.
There are numerous opportunities along the way to take a breather and absorb the ambiance. Hikers gain elevation quickly thanks to the stairs; there are railings almost everywhere for added safety, and those who wish can complete the route at a leisurely pace. The signs with the time indications along the hiking trails are therefore only guidelines.
The hiking trail also features the AlpSpitzKick, Germany's longest zip line at 1.2 kilometers, where top speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour can be reached. Children must be 1.5 meters tall to participate. This means that Marina still has a bit to grow.
After a climb of 550 meters, a fantastic panorama stretches before the family's eyes, with the famous Neuschwanstein Castle in the distance. For sunset, Sandra, Marina, and Sebastian found their special spot at the summit of the Alpspitz at 1,575 meters. The view is simply breathtaking, making every single climb worthwhile.
