Sustainability: What is sustainability?
Did you know that sustainability isn't just about the environment? Sustainability actually consists of three pillars: economics, ecology, and social issues.
Sustainability is not just about classic environmental protection - it is about much more than just avoiding plastic packaging
Sustainability is a multifaceted topic, extending far beyond traditional environmental protection. Sustainability aims to achieve a balance between ecology, economy, and social issues. These three aspects should be viewed equally, and it's important to recognize that they can influence each other.
The 3 pillars of sustainability
Ecological sustainability
Ecological sustainability focuses on the environment and ensures its preservation for future generations. Ecological sustainability can be applied not only in businesses but also in private life.
Economic sustainability
The focus of economics is on sustainable business practices. This means that companies should not only have profit maximization as their sole goal, but should also consider the well-being of society and the environment. In short: we need economic sustainability so that ecological sustainability can also be financed in the long term.
Social sustainability
Here, the focus is on people, or rather society as a whole. The goal is social justice. This includes, for example, equal opportunities and fair wages, but also promoting professional development.
Facts: Do you know the term Earth Overshoot Day? 🌍
From this day on, we will consume more resources than we are entitled to from a sustainable perspective. This means we are living on credit, so to speak!
And the frightening thing is, we are reaching this day earlier every year!
Earth Overshoot Day in Germany 2023 was on May 4.

Ecological sustainability

The first step can be switching electricity providers, but even using a solar and photovoltaic system can make a significant difference!
Each of the Explorer Hotels is therefore equipped with a PV system! Heat and hot water are generated by district heating from wood waste.
Social sustainability
Tourism regions and hotels can integrate their guests into local communities and thereby support cultural exchange. Supporting regional and local companies creates jobs and also provides authentic experiences for guests.
For example, Explorer Hotels don't have their own restaurant and thus support local gastronomy. Did you also know that your breakfast comes primarily from regional partners and suppliers?
