Earth Hour – An hour of darkness as a sign of climate protection
Earth Hour is a global environmental campaign launched by the environmental organization WWF to protect the climate. The next Earth Hour will take place on March 29, 2025. Learn more about the significance of Earth Hour and how you can participate here.
What is Earth Hour and how can you participate?
The "goal of Earth Hour": https://www.wwf.de/earth-hour/das-ist-die-earth-hour is simply explained – it is intended to raise awareness of climate change and focus on reducing energy consumption, thus highlighting the importance of combating climate change. The cool thing is, you can easily participate in Earth Hour!
During Earth Hour, you turn off the lights and other unnecessary electrical devices in your home for one hour. To connect with other participants, Earth Hour takes place at the same time. In Germany, it's between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March.
Why is Earth Hour so important?
Sustainable awareness: Earth Hour serves as a reminder to all of our responsibility towards the environment and future generations.
Global engagement: True to the motto "We are all in this together," Earth Hour creates a sense of community. People from different countries come together on this day to protect the environment.
Sustainable message: The symbolic switching off of lights for one hour reminds us that everyone can make a contribution.

This year marks the 18th Earth Hour! The first Earth Hour took place in Sydney in 2007. On that day, more than two million households turned off their lights. This event garnered global attention, and one year later, 370 cities in 35 countries had pledged their support. As you can see, it often only takes the first step to get things started!
