Explorer Hotels: What is the best way to eat during the race? And what do I eat beforehand?
Marion Fromberger:
Don't try anything new on race day, otherwise it usually goes wrong. If the farmer doesn't know it, he won't eat it, and certainly not under racing stress. Otherwise, the rule of thumb when it comes to nutrition is:
Start with full reserves, carbohydrates and also proteins are recharged in the last 48 hours before the start.
During the race itself, you can get quick energy from the sugar in energy gels and a protein bar.
And of course, you need to put something in your water bottle, optionally something with nutrients and electrolytes.
Tip: If you don't have anything on hand, then an apple spritzer with a pinch of salt is not a bad tip from your grandmother.
