Winter hike around the Alpsee near the Explorer Hotel in the Allgäu
Guest blogger Tiffy has a tip for you: Are you still looking for the perfect vacation destination for a few days in a winter wonderland? Then you should definitely head to Nesselwang in the Allgäu region. The Explorer Hotel Neuschwanstein is located right next to the Alpsitzbahn cable car, and you're just a few minutes' drive from Neuschwanstein Castle.

Wonderful hiking trails and fairytale castles await you! I was there myself recently, laced up my hiking boots, and took a look around:
The 20-minute drive from the Explorer Hotel Neuschwanstein to the village of the royal castles takes you along the enchanting Alpine route through the picturesque towns of Pfronten and Füssen. Next time I'll take a short stroll here, but today I have a different goal: hiking at Lake Alpsee.
The Alpsee Loop is advertised as an easy hiking trail for all ages and should take about 90 minutes. Well then, let's go - let's go!
The sun gleams cheerfully through the branches, and the snow crunches beneath my feet. As soon as I put on my hiking boots, I immerse myself in a completely new world. A world in which my perception of time changes, a world in which distances take on a whole new meaning, and a world in which there is only me—in harmony with nature.
I walk at a brisk pace along the edge of Lake Alpsee, letting my thoughts wander in peace. After a short while, I leave the paved road and turn left to continue my walk right along the lake's edge. There's not a soul around, and I can feel the peace of the winter forest rubbing off on me. The lake's water glistens to my left; some spots are frozen, while in others, the water ripples on the surface. A beautiful sight. I breathe deeply in the crystal-clear air and am grateful to be here.
I walk the first half of the trail in the sun. Thanks to my shoes (a good tread is half the battle!), even hiking in fresh snow is no problem. After a steady up and down along the edge of the forest, the path leads close to the lake's shore after about 45 minutes, revealing a postcard-perfect view: a fantastic view stretches before me across the partially frozen water surface, all the way to Hohenschwangau Castle on my left and Neuschwanstein Castle on my right.
Back to a time long gone - off to Neuschwanstein Castle
Standing there on the shore, all the fairy tales from my childhood come flooding back to me, and it wouldn't be a coincidence if Cinderella suddenly skittered past me on her white horse...
Unfortunately, due to the late hour, the sun quickly disappears behind the mountains, so I have to walk the last half of my walk in the shade. Passing the swimming pool and the pedal boat rental, I reach the parking lot at Neuschwanstein Castle after about 1.5 hours and an 8km walk, and I'm now looking forward to a hot coffee and a slice of cake.
I was completely enchanted by the short but wonderful hike around Lake Alpsee. I had fantastic weather and can highly recommend adding this hike around the lake to your to-do list for anyone staying at the Explorer Hotel Neuschwanstein! The view is magnificent, the trail is manageable for everyone, and anyone who wants to can even visit the two royal castles afterward. It's just the thing for a thoroughly enjoyable day trip, far away from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes.
