A leisurely hike in the Wertach Valley
Start at the Explorer Hotel Neuschwanstein. From here, walk along Maria-Trost Allee towards Nesselwang, past Café Number One, and onto Von-Lingg-Straße. At the miniature golf course, the tour turns left, past the Alpspitz-Bade-Center and the sports field.
There, simply continue towards the Hammerschmiede district. Reaching the houses, turn right towards Wertach Valley and, at the next fork in the path, take the right path towards Wertach Valley.
Now, walk along the Wertach River for a good stretch until a bridge leads to the other side. Here, turn left and follow the path past the former coal mine tunnel up to the high bank of the Wertach River, where you reach a farm track. Follow this road to the left to Maria Rain with its pilgrimage church. At the church, a small road to the right leads slightly uphill to the Almcafé Schnakenhöhe, where you can take a break.
Just above the café, follow the farm track, which leads downhill to the left (no signs). At a small group of trees, take the trail to the right until you reach a farm track, which continues downhill to the left. Once you reach the road near the small town of Rainen, follow the signs to the Wertach Valley and the path that continues downhill to the river. Walk along the Wertach River to the wooden bridge, which takes you back to the other side of the river, and follow the familiar path back to the Hammerschmiede. Here you stay straight ahead on the tarmac road, which leads past the cemetery back to the center of Nesselwang.
