Pure summit bliss with cold refreshments awaits you on your hike up the Rubihorn in Oberstdorf.
Start at the hiking car park in Reichenbach, about an 8-minute drive from the hotel. From there, hike up a paved road. After a short while, the Tobelweg trail leads through the Gaisalpbachtal valley on the right. A narrow path leads uphill along the Gaisalpbach stream.
You cross several bridges until the path becomes increasingly narrower towards the end of the ravine. After climbing a ladder and a gate, you return to the paved road and soon reach the Gaisalpe.
Behind the alp, follow the path to the right, leading through meadows into the forest. You cross streams, and the climb becomes increasingly steeper and rockier until you reach the Lower Gaisalpsee.
This beautiful mountain lake invites you to take a rest; if you look up, you can already see the Rubihorn summit above you. Along the lake's shore, follow the path that takes you to the eastern slope of the Rubihorn, climbing steep switchbacks to a notch. There are several sections of the ascent that require ropes; surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential. Once you reach the notch, keep to the right. Following the rocks over another secured and exposed section, you will quickly reach the Rubihorn summit (1957 m).
Time to enjoy the magnificent view of the valley and the Allgäu Alps.
The descent follows the same route. On the way back, you can descend via the Untere Richtersalpe to the road to Reichenbach.
Alternative ascent: You can climb from the Lower Gaisalpsee to the Upper Gaisalpsee (approx. 45 minutes) and hike up and down the Gaisalphorn and Niedereck, partly secured by ropes, to the Rubihorn summit.
