Discover one of the most beautiful peaks in the Zillertal
The starting point for your hike is the Kaltenbach Ski Hut on the Zillertal High Alpine Road.
You can reach it by car - tolls apply - or by bus from Kaltenbach.
From the ski hut, head to the Hubertus Chapel, from where you already have a fantastic view of the central Zillertal. A wide forest road leads past the chapel to the Hochalm.
From the alpine pasture, the trail becomes an ascending path; the red and white markings lead you across alpine meadows to just below the summit. The last few meters to the cross are a short scramble. Once you reach the Wetterkreuzspitze at 2,254 meters, a magnificent panoramic view of the Zillertal awaits you.
Just below the Wetterkreuzspitze, the path to the Marchkopf branches off, climbing gently over alpine meadows to the top station of the Zillertal Shuttle. Leaving the station behind you, you tackle the steep final part of the trail to the summit.
Once you reach the rocky Marchkopf summit (2499 m), it's time to catch your breath and enjoy the view.
The return journey takes you back to the top station via the same route, where you take the path that branches off to the right. Past the Wedelhütte and through the Grubach stream, you reach the summit of the Gedrechten (2217 m), Kaltenbach's local mountain. A hiking trail leads you from the summit back to the Kaltenbach Ski Hut, the starting point of your tour.
