From the Bielerhöhe to the Vermunt Glacier: an impressive tour through the Silvretta in Montafon
The tour starts at the Silvrettasee restaurant on the Bielerhöhe. From there, you walk along the lake through the long Ochsental valley to the Wiesbadener Hut of the German Alpine Club.
From there, you leave the well-maintained hiking trails and, in some places, head off-trail to the Vermunt Glacier. Follow the signposts to the Ochsenscharte. Past the Zollwacht Hut, you follow the left path along the west side of the Vermuntkopf. Along the way, you can discover newly formed turquoise glacial lakes and an area where the now significantly receded Vermunt Glacier still stood just a few years ago.
You descend along the glacier through a barren but impressive landscape back towards the Wiesbadener Hut. Shortly before that, turn right to the Radsattel and enjoy the sweeping panoramic view of the glaciated Silvretta Mountains and Tyrol. The saddle marks the border between Vorarlberg and Tyrol. You finally descend through the secluded and pristine Bieltal valley to the Silvretta Reservoir.
