Road bike tour over the Auerbach stream and the Wertachhalde in a stunning landscape in the Allgäu
From the Explorer Hotel Neuschwanstein, head towards the town. When you reach the main road, cross it diagonally to the right. From here, follow the signs for the Schlossparkrunde and the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path. These will take you out of Nesselwang towards Kögelweiher. Turn right at the pond and left at the next major fork in the road, following the path to Zell. From Zell, follow the Schlosspark Burgen- und Schlösserrunde to Hopferau and Hopfen am See. Continue along the cycle path towards Füssen, but do not go to Füssen. Instead, turn left at Eschach and follow the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path to Lake Forggensee. Now follow the Forggensee cycle path west past Roßhaupten, follow the Allgäu cycle route to the right, keep right at the Lusse inn and follow the Dampflokrunde & Auerberg@adventure route via Lechbruck, north along the Lech. Just before the hamlet of Dessau, turn left and head away from the Lech towards Bernbeuren.
In Bernbeuren (here was the Roman settlement of Damasia) the climb to the Auerberg begins via Auerbergstraße. Once at the top you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Alpine panorama and catch your breath. Continue down the descent (careful: steep), turn right at the first intersection and cycle gently downhill to Stötten. In the town keep left and follow the marked cycle paths to Sulzschneid past Balteratsried and Hummeratsried to Leuterschach. Behind Leuterschach take the Allgäu cycle path, cross the Wertach and then turn left onto the path towards Oberthingau. At the roundabout before Oberthingau, take the second exit and continue towards Görisried. Shortly after Görisried, the route descends steeply to the Wertach River, and then climbs again on the other bank. Continue to Rückholz and from there back to Nesselwang and the Explorer Hotel.
Tip: You can also do this loop on a gravel bike; there are wonderful gravel and forest paths along the route.
