Hiking to the Schafkopf in Farchant
Directly from the Explorer Hotel, the trail goes straight through Farchant, where you then pass the Gernweg and exit onto the Spielleitenweg.
If you want to drive from the hotel through Farchant (5 minutes), you will also find parking spaces at the end of the Spielleitenweg.
There, follow the "Schafkopf" sign and after a few meters, you will pass a small waterfall and then hike up the serpentines. After 20 minutes, you'll reach the first intersection at Spielleitboden. Here, turn left (signpost "Bergziele Ammergebirge") and follow the wide, rocky forest path. Just three minutes later, you'll reach another junction. At this junction, turn right (signpost "Schafkopf/Brünstlkopf/Notkarspitze") and enter a dense, dark mountain forest. After another 15 minutes, you'll reach a striking boulder with a bench. Continue straight ahead, leaving the rock on your right. Two minutes later, you'll reach a wide forest path. Turn right and onto the forest road (signposted "Schafkopf"). Barely five minutes later, continue straight ahead at a crossroads. Another two minutes later, the signposted path to Schafkopf branches off to the left from the wide forest path. For the next half hour, you'll walk along a beautiful path through a sparse forest. The path continues to wind its way up the wooded slope in switchbacks, bringing you to a grassy and surprisingly steep flank, which you'll cross.
The path is very good at this point, but you should still concentrate on this section. Then keep right and walk about 300 m to the summit cross, where benches and a magnificent view of Farchant, Garmisch, and the Wetterstein Mountains await you.
