Hiking with an Incredible Panoramic View on a Summer Vacation
By car, you drive from the Explorer Hotel Zillertal in Kaltenbach to Hippach and from there up the Zillertal High Alpine Road to the Melchboden snack bar.
Melchboden is the highest point of the high alpine road and is located at 2,020 meters. From there, you walk uphill towards Kreuzjoch, which is part of the Tux Alps and has an elevation of 2,336 meters. Before reaching Kreuzjoch, you will cross the Rauhenkopf (2,268 meters) and Mitterwandskopf (2,280 meters) on comfortable paths, which are located along the way. Shortly before the Kreuzjoch summit, the path briefly becomes very rocky, and the path is secured with a steel cable.
An incredible panorama awaits you along the entire route. However, you should be sure-footed and have a head for heights. In total, it is 9.1 km back to the parking lot.
