Popular ski tour to the summit of the Schrocken
From the valley station of the Hinterstoder-Höss cable car, take the gondola, continue on the Höss Express, and then take the 2,000-meter lifts to the Schafkögel. The ski tour begins at the foot of the Schrocken.
From there, the route continues steadily uphill. You pass the shoulder of the ridge and continue until you reach the three ridge towers.
Caution: Depending on the snow conditions, the safety ropes are only partially usable. Therefore, bringing a piece of rope is recommended.
The route continues uphill (again, be careful of the clearing!) and finally down to the ridge. Continue following the signs, which will take you up the Schrocken mountain at an altitude of 2,281 m in switchbacks (or through a steep gully).
Once you reach the summit, you can first enjoy the magnificent view of the peaks of the Totes Gebirge mountain range. The view of the Grosser Priel is particularly breathtaking.
Ski down a relatively wide slope and then continue into the Rottal valley. For a short stretch, put on your skins again, as you have to climb a few meters to reach the ski area. The descent continues relatively steeply through forests and past the Loferhütte until you finally cross the hiking trail to the Hutterer Böden.
If there is little snow, follow this path to the mid-station; otherwise, you will pass the Edtbauernalm and cross a forest road. After a short climb, you will finally reach the bend of the Höss toll road. Follow the forest road until you reach the World Cup course on the left, crossing the so-called "Fröstl Meadow."
