A great snow experience for ski tourers in Bad Kleinkirchheim
In about 15 minutes by car, you can reach the starting point, the Winkl parking lot, if you start at the Explorer Hotel Bad Kleinkirchheim. Now it's time to put on your skins and off you go. At the beginning of your ski tour, you have to decide whether you prefer the more leisurely route via the forest road and trail, or if you're in top shape and want to take the route through the forest.
At the beginning, the forest road leads you to the first bend. From there, follow the path until the forest road comes into view again. Following this path, after a few hundred meters you will reach a fork where you must turn left. This path leads you to the Falkerthaus. From here, continue north along the stream until the trail makes a steep left turn. Depending on your fitness level, you'll have to make a decision here.
After approximately 100 meters of elevation gain, the paths meet again. Now follow the trail to a small alpine pasture. The path there is much flatter. Since the Soldier's Cross is located between the two well-known peaks of Mallnock and Klomnock, you now have an optimal view of both peaks. To ensure you reach the cross safely, bypass the steep slope on the right and climb up to the notch.
Once you reach the plateau, head northeast. Now you'll need a head for heights, as the final stretch takes you along the ridge until you reach the Soldier's Cross. Get off your skis quickly, because then you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the breathtaking view!
For the descent, always follow the ascent tracks. In very good snow conditions, you can ski directly down the steep slope below the Soldatenkreuz. But check the conditions carefully beforehand.
