Ski tour to the Marchkopf - a tour with numerous variations
The starting point for the tour is the parking lot of the Hochfügen ski area in the Zillertal at almost 1,474 meters.
From the end of the parking lot, i.e., from the last lift station, head south under the gondola and along the wide alpine path (a toboggan run in winter) into the valley.
The road climbs comfortably, parallel to the Finsing stream, to the Pfundsalm Niederleger (1,640 m). Stay on this path for about 300 meters. At the Rastkogelhütte" signpost, turn left and follow a path down to the stream. Cross the stream over the bridge.
Then, climb east on the other side of the valley to the Viertalm Niederleger (approx. 1750 m) and continue in a southeasterly direction to the Hochleger (2022 m). Here, the trail splits to the Kraxentrager. You reach this by continuing half-right, in a southeasterly direction.
To reach the Marchkopf, climb over a ridge to the left. You continue diagonally over ideally inclined slopes shortly to the northeast until a wide slope opens up to the east. If you mostly keep to the left of the ridge and climb east over a steeper step, you will reach a flat summit. The terrain then flattens out and a huge, wide, ideal slope opens up. Here, you can see the summit with its cross for the first time. You now climb east along the ideal slope up to the ridge, which you reach to the left of the Seewand. Turning north over the broad ridge and immediately east again, you reach the now visible Marchkopf. Pass the rocky forepeak on the right and traverse the very steep southern face. Below the cross, the path then climbs steeply for a few meters to the summit. (In case of avalanche danger, experienced ski mountaineers can also ascend the ridge on foot.)
The descent follows roughly the same route as the ascent, although the extensive terrain allows for many variations.
