Intermediate via ferrata in the Stubai Valley from the Franz-Senn-Hütte
Difficulty: B/C
Caution: Be sure to monitor the water level of the Alpeiner Bach stream and immediately turn back/get off/exit the route if it reaches the footholds.
Starting point for the approach to the via ferrata is the Franz-Senn-Hütte parking lot near Seduck. Parking is very limited here; arriving by bus is recommended.
Approach: From the parking lot near Seduck, the trail leads past the Oberrissalm alpine pasture and on to the Franz-Senn-Hütte (duration approximately 1.5 hours). From there, follow the Alpeiner Bach stream and the signposts for about 20 minutes. At the first rise in the terrain, turn left until you see the start of the via ferrata marked with a red rope. Climbing time: 30 minutes. The Höllenrachen via ferrata is a fairly short, albeit very fun, route where you overcome some exciting sections just a few meters above the roaring stream. Descent: Back to the Franz-Senn-Hütte and on to Seduck. Getting there: Take bus lines 590, 591, or 593 from Außerrain to Milders (Ort stop). A short walk to Hotel Almhof, then take the Oberbergtal/Seduck taxi service. Departure times from Hotel Almhof: 9:35 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. Return trips from Seduck Alm: 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. €14 round trip per person, children aged 4-12 receive a 50% discount. Additional trips available upon request. Tel: +43 5226 2626 (as of 2026). Tip: The Edelweiss via ferrata (difficulty C) is just 20 minutes away and waiting to be explored.
