Great via ferrata tour with 3 options in Schönau am Königssee
You can start either directly at the Explorer Hotel Berchtesgaden or at the parking lot at Königssee, which is about 1.2 km from the hotel. There are 3 entry points with varying levels of difficulty.
- Isidor Variant: easy - moderate (if you absolutely want to cross the suspension bridge, you can also incorporate it into the easy variant; you just have to turn around).
- Hotel Route: athletically challenging variant with overhanging sections, partly wet and accordingly slippery.
- Räuberleiter: athletically challenging with a suspension/rope bridge, definitely not for beginners.
- Intersport-Renoth-Gipfelwand: This new exit option has been available since summer 2013, with difficulty levels ranging from D+ to E!
All variants converge again in the upper section. There are both easy and very difficult and dangerous sections, so the climb should not be underestimated. If in doubt, choose the easy one. This route is beautiful, as the difficult variants are not suitable for beginners.
The trail is well signposted and in very good condition. It gets easier towards the end.
"And how do I get back down here?"
From the summit at 1306 m, descend to the Grünsteinhütte, where you can stop for a break. Afterwards, keep right onto the wide path to Hammerstiel / Hinterschönau or left onto the Klingerweg, which takes you back to the bobsleigh and toboggan run and the Königssee parking lot.
P.S.: If you're planning a via ferrata in Berchtesgaden with children, check out the Schützensteig on the Kleiner Jenner, which is rated A/B.
