A panoramic summit tour in the Ötztal Alps - also ideal as a sunrise tour
Today's mountain tour on your hiking holiday in Umhausen in the Ötztal takes you from the Issbrücke parking lot over the Obere Issalm to the Knappenhaus and through the Wörgetal to the Wetterkreuzkogel.
Have you ever done a sunrise tour? No?! Then this tour is the perfect first tour - and getting up early will be worth it - we promise ;)
If you want to take the cable car: there is also a tour from the mountain station of the Acherkogelbahn in Hochoetz to the Wetterkreuz.
You head to the first destination of the hike: the Knappenhaus. From the Iss bridge between Mareil and the Lower Issalm, the path ascends to the Upper Issalm, where it also joins the Knappenweg trail, which leads from Kühtai to Hochoetz on a beautiful high-altitude hike.
Here, follow the signpost Knappenhaus/Wetterkreuz and hike south along trail no. 148, which climbs slightly, through the Wörge Valley to the Knappenhaus with its stamp mill, just above the wild and romantic Pochersee.
Continue through the Wörge Valley over gently rising mountain meadows in a wide left-right loop toward the end of the valley, then west of the rear Karlesspitze in a right-hand curve, past small lakes into a wide hollow, and finally up the serpentine path to the ridge. The last few meters continue westward along the grassy ridge to the less pronounced summit, where a wooden weather cross stands at the highest point of the Wetterkreuzkogel (2,591 m).
Finally there! :-)
Once you reach the top, you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Ötztal mountains and savor the summit snack you brought with you. Now you know why your vacation in the Ötztal was the perfect choice :)
The described ascent route takes you back to the valley, and from there back to Umhausen to the Explorer Hotel, where you've earned a delicious drink at the Explorer Bar ;)
