Breathtaking panoramas and a refreshing mountain lake await you on this high-altitude hike in the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve.
Want a hike despite the hot summer days? Then the hike to the Falkert is just right for you! Because at the end, the Falkertsee awaits you as a refreshing reward! But even in cooler temperatures, the hike is worthwhile thanks to the unique views of the surrounding panorama.
It starts at the valley station of the Brunnach Biosphere Reserve cable car. The valley station is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel; alternatively, you can take the Nockmobil; the stop is a 3-minute walk from the hotel and is included in your Sunshine Card. It's easy: call one hour before departure and order a taxi to your desired stop.
Once you arrive at the valley station of the Biosphere Mountain Cable Car, you'll be taken to almost 2000 m above sea level. In warm summer temperatures, every meter of elevation gain is appreciated. Then you're ready to go! Turn right and follow the well-signposted Salzsteigweg trail further into the Biosphere Reserve toward Falkertspitz (2308 m). After about 4 hours, you'll reach the summit. Time for a snack! If the visibility is good, you can see as far as Slovenia and the Hohe Tauern mountains.
After enjoying the view, we'll continue on. We're not at the end of the tour yet. The crowning finale is the detour to Falkertsee (1890 m), which lies just below the summit. There, you can cool off or choose from one of the many refreshment stops.
You can also return to the hotel with the Nockmobil. There are two stops at Falkertsee. If you haven't had enough yet, you can first follow hiking trail 109, which then turns right onto trail no. 1 to Bad Kleinkirchheim. You should plan on spending three hours for this.
Tip: For early risers, the Biosphere Reserve Administration offers regular sunrise hikes to the Falkert.
