A tour that will really make you sweat
A quick climb to the summit isn't for you, and you need a new challenge during your vacation in Nesselwang. Perfect! This tour is made for you.
From your hotel in Nesselwang, take the A95 to Ettal and Graswang in the direction of Plansee/Reutte. This will take you to the starting point in 40 minutes – right next to the parking lot at the Ammerwaldalm.
From the parking lot, walk left past the alpine pasture on a forest path into the forest. When you reach the Roggentalbach stream, turn onto the narrow path. After a few meters, you'll come to a wooden bridge and change to the left side of the stream. From here, follow the steep path up the slope. After about an hour, you'll reach a junction where you turn left towards "zum Fensterl."
You now climb through the Roggentalgraben to the saddle between Hochplatte and Hochblasse. After another hour, you'll reach the saddle and already have an incredibly magnificent view towards the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps. You continue along the trail and after another 15 minutes, you'll finally reach "das Fensterl," a hole in the rocky summit ridge of Hochplatte. Here, turn right and begin your ridge hike!
A few meters higher, the ridge becomes increasingly sharp, and you'll reach a section secured with a wire rope for descending. Persevere; you'll soon make it, and after a few minutes, you'll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful summit views! This is one of the best in the entire Ammergau Alps.
The Descent
The descent begins in an easterly direction. Here, the trail leads you along a well-secured ridge. The trail becomes increasingly flatter and eventually you reach the Weitalpjoch. From here, hike toward Roggental until you reach the junction you've seen on the ascent. The last few meters of ascent are on the trail back to the Ammerwaldalm.
