From the base camp, the Explorer Hotel Zillertal, you drive up the Zillertal High Alpine Road to the Melchboden snack bar, where parking is available. The trail to Kreuzjöchl starts here. Kreuzjöchel is what the Zillertalers call the summit. It is also known as the Mitterwandskopf. The trail itself is manageable and offers a lot, but requires some technical skill in some sections. Shortly before the summit, it leads over a ridge. During the tour, you'll have wonderful views of the surrounding 3,000 m, as the trail runs between two large ski areas, Penken and Hochzillertal. The trail itself can also be hiked up as usual, making it an attractive destination for families.
Tip: The tour is not only suitable for a trail run, but also excellent as a hike.
Good to know: There is some disagreement about the name of the summit. On maps and in literature, the summit is not called Kreuzjoch, but the local signage indicates it is. Don't let the name confuse you ;)
