Day tour to Hamberg and Standkopf in the Zillertal
The tour starts at the Gatterberg hiking car park, about 15 minutes by car from the Explorer Hotel. You can reach the car park from Stumm on a well-maintained mountain road via the (closed) Bergrast Inn.
Now it's time to put on your hiking boots and let's go! The starting point is in the bend, near the Bergrast Inn. From here, stay on the southern slope until you reach the farms. Once there, there's a fork where you turn onto the main trail. This initially leads you through dense forest. After several clearings and forest roads, you finally reach the Steinbergaste. Now you leave the forest behind you and climb the summit flank. It's not far now. Once you've left the boulders behind you, you'll be standing at the summit of the Hamberg. It should have taken you about 3 hours to get here.
Continue northeast along the ridge over the Schallnköpfe. Once you've reached them, you continue hiking along a north-facing traverse and a steep slope until you reach the Standkopf summit. After a few photos, or rather #ExplorerMoments, you initially head back the same way until you reach the Hart signpost. From here, follow the descent route. After a while, follow the Gatterberg signpost, which you follow. Shortly before you reach the parking lot, the path turns into a forest road that takes you directly to your car. It's important to remember to bring plenty of food and breaks on a day trip!
