Challenging hike in the Totes Gebirge mountains in Hinterstoder
The tour starts at the Almgasthof Baumschlagerreith at the end of the Stodertal valley. From here, follow the gently ascending forest path across the meadow to the first bend. At the bend, follow a narrow trail along the ditch to the stream. After crossing it, the first steep, serpentine climb through the forest awaits you.
Once you reach the first saddle, you've already completed the first half of the climb.
Continue hiking the steep path through the beech forest up to the unserviced Hochsteinalm (1,296 m). After about 600 meters, you reach the Lögerhütte. Here you can take a break and enjoy the view of the mountains.
To the northwest, you can see the "Großer Priel" and the "Spitzmauer." To the south, you can see the "Großer Kraxenberg," "Großer Brieglersberg," and "Almkogel." And to the northeast, you can admire the "Kleiner Priel" in all its expanse.
Above the Lögeralm, the actual Dolomitensteig begins. The narrow trail leads you up and down steep rock faces, through ditches, over hilltops, past gullies and impressive rock formations. Gradually, you approach the rope-secured descent into the Schwarzgraben.
P.S. There is also a second, newly created variant here, which takes you directly along the Gumpenkaskaden (pool cascades).
The trail gradually descends into the valley. The last part of the hike is on a forest road and leads you back to the parking lot at Baumschlagerreith.
By the way, the trail is closed every year from September 15th to October 1st for hunting purposes.
