Easy ski tour to the Ambergerhütte and Sulzbichl in the Stubai Alps

A leisurely ski tour to the Amberger Hut in the Ötztal Valley in the Stubai Alps

The starting point for this easy ski tour is Gries im Sulztal. From the large parking lot, the route heads mainly southeast into the valley.

To begin, use the large meadow, which also has a cross-country ski trail. Approximately at the junction to the Winnebachsee Hut, switch to the forest path and cross the stream. The forest path can be shortened several times via beautiful forest clearings. After a short time, you will reach the Vordere Sulztalalm.

After the Vordere Sulztalalm, you reach another stream crossing, where it seems as if you have reached the end of the valley. However, the path leads you in a long right-hand curve around the rock formation that descends from the Sulzkogel.

Afterward, you enter the flat, wide valley floor of the Hintere (unserviced) Sulzalm. You reach the final ascent over another bridge. The tour takes you uphill beneath the steep walls of the Sulzbichl.

The Amberger Hütte (2135 m) is only visible at the last moment. The final climb to the hut is also a bit tricky, but mostly easy to walk. You walk around the hut and negotiate the last few meters on the southern slope. Then you climb the inconspicuous elevation behind the hut. The simple summit cross is not at the highest point on the expansive plateau, but a little lower, towards the Sulzkogel.

The short climb up Sulzbichl (2,176 m) is worth it! From up there, you have a fantastic view down to the hut. To the north, you look down over the steep slopes to the Hintere Sulztalalm, and the panoramic view of the glacier world with the large ski touring mountains to the south is equally breathtaking.

The descent follows the same route as the ascent, although here, too, you can use the beautiful forest clearings instead of the forest road.
