Description of the Umhausen Loop Bike Tour
The scenic loop starts at the Explorer Hotel in Umhausen. From here, the route leads through the town center and then along fields and meadows to the Lehn-Platzl district and to the Engelswand – one of the best climbing gardens in Tyrol. Here you can take a short break and watch the climbers.
The route now continues to Ried in Tumpen. Here, you loop left and return along the same side of the Ötztaler Ache.
In the Östen district, you cross the main road before continuing over the wooden bridge and then left through the Leiersbach district. The trail continues through a roughly 3km-long forest and turns left at the next intersection to cross the Ötztaler Ache stream and then, via a short but steep climb, reaches the Neudorf district.
The trail now continues gently uphill along the Achrainweg. At the next intersection, turn right and continue into the valley, then cross the Ötztaler Bundesstraße and follow the Am Loam road.
The trail now heads towards Niederthai. In a loop to the left, the Niederthaier Landesstraße returns to Umhausen.
After just under a kilometer, turn right to the Bischofsplatz parking lot and continue on the wide gravel road past the Ötzi Village and the Birds of Prey Park to the Waldcafé Stuböbele. If you'd like to learn more about the history of the Ötztal Valley, the Ötzi Village open-air museum is the perfect place to start. The Stuibenfall, Tyrol's highest waterfall, is also worth a visit. After a hearty snack at the forest café, the gravel path leads you back to the hotel, alongside a stream and fields.
