Hiking through the Austrian mountains to the Schesaplana
You start your mountain hike with a pleasant ride on the Lünerseebahn cable car. Arriving at the mountain station (1,980 m), you walk from the Douglasshütte along the azure waters of the Lünersee and hike up to the Totalphütte (2,385 m).
Once you reach the top, you can rest for a moment and enjoy the view of the Kirchlispitzen. From the hut, climb a rugged stone step, then continue steeply until you reach a charming rocky passage via a few switchbacks and arrive at the so-called chimney. This is secured with wire ropes.
You now come to a horseshoe-shaped high hollow, where firn snow often remains until mid-summer. The path climbs up the right side of the high basin and leads into rocky gullies rising to the left.
Once you reach this point, you've reached the bottleneck of the Schesaplana Trail. When there are many hikers, it can get congested.
After a few meters of elevation gain, you'll find yourself at the mighty summit cross on the Schesaplana (2,965 m). A fantastic 360-degree view awaits you. You return the same way.
