Hiking around the Wöllaner Nock
Just a few minutes' walk from the Explorer Hotel Bad Kleinkirchheim is the Kaiserburgbahn mountain station, which takes you to the starting point of the Wöllaner Nock Alpine Circuit. A short climb to the summit of the Kaiserburg at 2,055 meters above sea level awaits you. Once at the top, you can see your first destination to the south: the 2,145-meter-high Wöllaner Nock. From here, if the visibility is good, you can admire several peaks of the Julian Alps to the south. The trail continues gently downhill to the Vorderer Wöllaner Nock. Next, the trail leads you to a somewhat steeper descent along the eastern ridge to the Geigerhütte. If your stomach starts rumbling now, consider yourself lucky, because the detour to the alpine hut is definitely worth it! And if Carinthian noodles are a foreign word to you, now's the perfect opportunity to expand your food vocabulary. But enough about the food :)
After a short rest, hike northeast toward Lichteben, gaining about 300 meters in altitude. Following the hiking trail, you'll soon reach the next ridge. Here, keep west along the ridge. From Pfaffeneck, the trail heads north—a short climb awaits you. Following the contour line, you hike back up steep terrain and reach your starting point. Enjoy the magnificent view once more before taking the cable car back down and rewarding yourself with a drink at the bar in the Explorer Hotel.
