Hiking and Day Trip Destination: Piburger See - Ötztal
Packed your swimming gear? Then let's get started! After a hearty breakfast, you and your family will head to Ötz. The drive takes about 10 minutes to the community center, where you can park.
From there, continue along the wild Ötztaler Ache stream to the Wellerbrücke bridge. Use this to cross the water and follow the path into the forest.
You and your family will have to turn left twice at the forks in the path and right at the last one to reach the Seehäusl. Since the path is well signposted, you're sure not to get lost.
Once you reach the top, you can optionally continue the circular walk around the lake or stay at the swimming pool. The walk around the lake is 3.5 km long. The walk takes three hours, including the circular walk and the return trip to the parking lot. If you'd like to go to the lake but are perhaps traveling with a stroller, you can also park at the top of the lake and walk a short distance along the water with the stroller until you reach the swimming pool.
Unfortunately, you are only allowed to swim in the designated area, as the lake is a nature reserve. However, you won't freeze when you go in, as it is one of the warmest mountain lakes in Austria and usually has a pleasant water temperature of 24 degrees.
