Signposted panoramic mountain bike tour from Hinterstoder to the Hutterer Böden in Upper Austria
Those who don't mind the elevation gain can start the tour at the Explorer Hotel. From the cable car parking lot, head toward the town entrance and turn onto the Hutterer Höss Panorama Road opposite the Jaidhaus Inn.
Now you have to climb 800 meters along the toll road until you reach the Hutterer Böden.
For those who want to avoid this strenuous climb, there is the cable car, which comfortably transports mountain bikers and bikes up to the Hutterer Böden. (You can use the Pyhrn-Priel AktivCard for passenger transport; bike transport is an additional charge.)
Whether you arrive under your own steam or by cable car, from the Hutterer Böden (the cable car's mid-station), you now cycle approximately 1 kilometer along a flat gravel road across the alpine pastures towards the Edtbauernalm.
After a few hundred meters, you'll reach a ridge. Here, a partially steep path leads you down into the Rottal valley. This technically challenging section is almost 1 kilometer long and can also be pushed. The advantage: You can enjoy the magnificent view in peace ;)
Once you reach the Rottal valley, a hilly forest road leads you mostly downhill to the Steyrsbergerreith. From here, the path continues downhill in several curves to the Schafferteich pond – perfect for a refreshing rest on hot summer days.
From the small mountain lake, continue on the paved road past the Schaffergut farm to Vorderstoder. As soon as you emerge from the forest, turn sharply left and follow the signs for the cycle route to Hinterstoder. The cycling route takes you along gravel and meadow paths past farms and finally back to Hinterstoder.
The Höss Tour is an official mountain bike tour, signposted as MTB 3.
