E-bike tour via Königssee - Maria Gern - Bischofswiesen - Kastensteiner Wand - Engedey - Schönau
Many seasoned road cyclists are somewhat skeptical about electric motors. Seize your opportunity and test an e-bike during your vacation at the Explorer Hotel Berchtesgaden. Buddy Patrick also had such a great new experience.
Experience the most beautiful spots in Berchtesgaden in one tour
"It's time to call it a day! Quickly change your green Explorer T-shirt into a green Explorer Bike jersey – these jerseys are available for purchase at the Explorer Hotels, by the way ;). Let the electric motor push you on a gentle climb – guess what? The bike helps, but you still have to generate most of the energy yourself. Kind of logical, otherwise I could just hop on a motorcycle ;-) ."
You start directly at the Explorer Hotel and from there, turn left up the road towards Königssee. After a few minutes, you reach the lake and then continue over the weir towards the boat dock and from there to Malerwinkel. However, you have to walk the last few meters to the Malerwinkel viewpoint.
"By the way, you should definitely see the Malerwinkel (a 30-minute walk from the hotel)."
From the Malerwinkel, the cycle path follows the Königssee Ache. This leads to Berchtesgaden train station through picturesque forests and across lush meadows, always alongside the river. The path is flat and very well-developed. From the train station, you cycle through Berchtesgaden's old town, across Schlossplatz and up to Locksteinstraße. If you prefer a more tranquil experience, continue on to Weinfeld. A lonely chapel on the meadow above Berchtesgaden with a fantastic panorama invites you to linger. From there, the route continues to the highest point, namely the road up to Maria Gern. Here, you have a beautiful view of the Untersberg with the Berchtesgaden Hochthron and the "Gerner Kircherl." You return the same way, but this time in the direction of Bischofswiesen, up a steep climb and finally to the Kastensteiner Wand. From there, you cycle down through Bischofswiesen and to the Böcklweiher – in the middle of the largest raised bog. The tour winds its way along the four-wheel path back down to Engedey and briefly along the Ramsauer Ache river, before climbing the Stangerberg and then back to Schönau. On the home stretch back to the Explorer Hotel, you cross the beautiful meadows on the high plateau in the middle of the valley basin – simply fantastic!
"My conclusion about the e-bike tour: The tour is certainly not the easiest, but anyone who wants to see Berchtesgaden will definitely get their money's worth here. Personally, I have to admit that a little help when cycling uphill is a nice touch. And if you don't get on your bike often, it opens up completely different options for bike tours. Nevertheless, it is and remains a bike where you still have to do most of the work yourself, and you shouldn't overestimate yourself in combination with the motor, as it is and remains a supporting drive.
Have fun, Your Patrick"
