One of the tobogganing highlights in the Ostallgäu is the winter hike followed by a toboggan run to the Kappeler Alp
And you already have the perfect starting point! The Explorer Hotel Neuschwanstein is located very close to the starting point in Pfronten Kappel. From there, it's a pleasant hike of about two hours to the Kappeler Alp. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to whizz down the mountain on a toboggan. Fun is guaranteed for all ages! This winter highlight also tempts you with a cozy mountain hut stop!
Tobogganing in the Ostallgäu
Breitenberg
You absolutely must visit the longest toboggan run in the Allgäu! The Breitenbergbahn cable car and the four-seater chairlift take you comfortably up the Breitenberg mountain, or you can walk up the toboggan run. Numerous curves and switchbacks await you over approximately 6.5 kilometers, and if snow conditions allow, they will lead you back down into the Ach Valley. If you didn't start from here, a shuttle bus will take you and your sled back to the valley station of the Breitenbergbahn cable car.
PS: You can easily rent sleds at the valley station.
Buchenberg
Attention sporty tobogganers! The toboggan run on Buchenberg winds its way through the winding landscape for 2.5 kilometers. It starts at the mountain station on Buchenberg and descends to Buching.
During the holidays, you can even race down the toboggan run under floodlights! If you don't have a toboggan, you can rent one at the valley station.
Be careful: the curves and unexpected potholes here are not to be underestimated! 😉
