Slightly exposed via ferrata to the beautiful Warscheneck
The Warscheneck southeast ridge is a very exposed but secured via ferrata in places, leading you to the easternmost peak of the Totes Gebirge mountain range.
Parking is available at the Wurzeralm cable car parking lot. Take the cable car up to the mountain station. From there, hike to the valley station of the Frauenkar lift. The path is gently descending. Continue along the trail until you reach a fork. Keep left here and ascend into the Frauenkar cirque.
Once there, the route continues over steep rock steps, involving some easy climbing, until you reach the Widerlechnerstein. From here, the route continues, secured with wire ropes and footholds, at difficulty level (A/B), to the summit cross of the Warscheneck.
Here you can take a short break, have a snack, and take some great photos for our wall ;-)
Once your energy reserves are replenished, it's time to descend. This follows the normal route to the Wurzeralm and leads you along the ridge, followed by a short steep section until you soon reach the Toter Mann. At the Rote Wand, turn right towards the Brunnersteiner See. From here, the Teichlboden hiking trail leads you back to your starting point.
Difficulty levels explained:
A/B (easy to moderately difficult)
B/C (moderately difficult to difficult)
C/D (difficult to very difficult)
D/E (extremely difficult and only for experienced hikers and professionals)
