The Wank - a stunning panoramic peak in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
From our hotel in Farchant, head to the Wank Bahn parking lot in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (4.8 km, approx. 10 minutes by car). The hike begins from there.
Once you reach the parking lot, follow the road on foot, past the climbing forest and the Dax Chapel, to the Esterbergalm. Here you can take a short rest, as the alpine pasture is open all year round, except in November.
The ascent to the summit of the Wank takes place via a narrow zigzag path over the Ameisenberg. You can see the Ameisenberg summit cross above and to the right.
After a few hundred meters, you'll reach your destination, where from the Wank summit you'll enjoy an outstanding panorama that encompasses the entire Wetterstein Mountains, Garmisch-Partenkirchen on one side, and far into the Alpine foothills on the other.
At the Wank-Haus, you can enjoy the sun on the terrace and stop for a bite to eat.
The descent initially leads over open meadowland and several switchbacks to the Ecken-Hütte. You then continue via the Gamshütte and past the waterfalls at the Kesselgraben. Finally, you walk via the St. Anton pilgrimage chapel to the Wank cable car valley station.
