The Schmugglersteig to the Gargellner Köpfe is a worthwhile via ferrata from Vaude with two difficulty levels.
You can reach the starting point in a relaxed manner with the Gargellen cable car. From the mountain station, it's about a 30-minute walk to the start of the via ferrata. At the notch, you have enough space to put on your via ferrata equipment and can catch your breath.
From the start, you follow a ridge-like structure over a steep step to a signpost. Here, the via ferrata branches off into an easier variant with a difficulty level of up to C.
The more difficult alternative leads to the right at the junction and includes passages up to D. The two cantilevered rope bridges are definitely the highlights of this variant and offer a unique view! A slightly overhanging wall requires strength and concentration.
Then, the route continues over a slabby ridge, and both options converge again. A steep wall passage follows, and a final ridge leads to the highest point of the Gargellner Köpfe.
After a long break, the descent continues for a short stretch on the via ferrata. But first, the view of the Silvretta must be enjoyed. The starting point of the tour is the same as the starting point: the Gargellen cable car.
Alternative: It is possible to bypass the steep wall passage, the Kristallwand; shortly before the entrance to the wall, a steep path leads further onto the ridge.
