At sunrise on the Grünten in the southern Allgäu
The Grünten can be climbed from two sides. You can either start from Burgberg or from the northeast (Rettenberg). At sunrise, the ascent from the northeast via the Alpe Kammeregg is recommended. This is the shortest route to the summit, and the trail conditions are easier this way.
The tour starts at the Alpe Kammeregg parking lot. You reach the alpine pasture in less than 10 minutes via a paved road. The path to the Grünten leads past the alpine pasture on the right. The path climbs up meadows and forest paths to a fork in the trail. To reach the summit, keep right here.
The path continues uphill over switchbacks and slightly gravelly terrain – the last few meters to the summit are over rocks. The summit is marked by the Hunter's Monument, and a little further on, you'll see the Bavarian Broadcasting Tower. The view from up here is far more impressive: the Allgäu Alps rise to the south and east, the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park to the west, and to the north, you can see the gently rolling landscape of the Alpine foothills. After sunrise, and on clear days, you can even see the Säntis in Switzerland and Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, from the summit.
After enjoying a magnificent sunrise at the Grünten, the return route takes you down the serpentines for the first stretch to the fork in the path. Here, keep straight and take the path to the Grüntenhütte. This hut offers a panoramic view at 1,477 m and invites you to enjoy a coffee on its large sun terrace. The descent continues over the Höfle Alp. Shortly after the alpine pasture, you leave the alpine path and take the hiking trail to the Kammeregg Alp. From here it is only a few meters to the parking lot.
