Long loop. Lots of mountains. Great trails.
Lace up your running shoes and head to the Rotwand area. From the Explorer Hotel Bayrischzell, you can head directly towards the Sillbach Valley and join the loop. A leisurely warm-up? Not really. Even on the way to the Sillberghaus , you'll rack up some serious elevation gain before the climb becomes more consistent and you can find your rhythm.
The route then demonstrates just how varied trail running around Bayrischzell can be. Wide forest roads alternate with narrow mountain paths and truly beautiful singletracks. It's definitely worth slowing down a bit at Soinsee : This dark green mountain lake lies in a high cirque in the heart of the Mangfall Mountains and is one of those places where a short stop is simply a must.
From here on, the terrain becomes more alpine. The loop via Rotwandhaus and Taubenstein, in particular, offers stunning scenery: open mountain landscapes, sweeping views, and sections where the going is easy. The path from Rotwandhaus towards Taubenstein is especially perfect for getting back into the flow after the long climb.
From Taubenstein, the route heads back down into the valley. Those who want to run as much as possible should stick to the wider paths; the more direct trails can become so steep and rough in places that trail running quickly turns into power hiking. After that, it's time to let yourself roll downhill, loosen up your legs, and head back towards Bayrischzell.
A route for those who enjoy long mountain sessions, significant elevation gain, and a mix of runnable paths, trails, and alpine sections . Definitely not a quick after-work run – but plenty of mountain adventure in a single loop.
