New Via Ferrata on the Großer Priel
Challenging, impressive, and spectacular. At 2,130 meters of climbing, the new via ferrata in the Pyhrn-Priel holiday region leads intrepid explorers to an altitude of 2,515 meters, to the illuminated summit cross of the Großer Priel. The existing Bert-Rinesch via ferrata was renovated and extended to accommodate this new challenge. The entrance now leads through two large rock windows and is a true highlight for experienced via ferrata climbers.
You should plan plenty of time for your trip to Austria's longest via ferrata.
The starting point is the Prielschutzhaus, which you can reach in 3 hours from the Explorer Hotel Hinterstoder. From there, a 45-minute walk leads you to the actual starting point. The ascent of the via ferrata – rated "very difficult" (D) – takes experienced climbers 5.5 hours, while the descent takes approximately 2 hours.
