You start directly at the Explorer Hotel Montafon in Gaschurn. The tour requires stamina, and you should be prepared for some very steep sections that will make your calves and thighs burn. You should definitely have some cycling experience. The tour is also easily doable with an e-bike.
First, you head towards the valley station of the Versettlabahn and then on to Partenen. The cycle path leads from the village exit to the toll station of the Silvretta High Alpine Road. You pass this and follow the road to the second bend. Here you leave the toll road. The paved forest path into the Ganifertal Valley leads you gently uphill with a gradient of 10-12%.
From the Ausserganifer Alpine Hut, the path then flattens out, and at the end of the valley you can already see the dam wall rising up. For now, ignore the turnoff to the Heilbronner Hut to the left, as the detour to the Kops Reservoir is definitely worth it. Once again, switch off your brain and just keep pedaling to negotiate the sometimes steep switchbacks to the reservoir.
Now you've definitely earned a break. :-) First, head back along the same path to the turnoff to the Heilbronner Hut. On easily navigable gravel, you continue further down into the valley, past the Verbellaalpe. A few switchbacks follow, uphill until you can catch your breath again; the path flattens out again, leads through cow pastures, and your destination for the day, the Heilbronner Hut, comes into view. Now you need to mobilize your strength once again. Shortly before the hut, the path becomes really steep (approx. 20%). The view of the lake quickly makes you forget the exertion. And at the destination, you can reward yourself with a hearty stop!
The way back to the hotel leads along the same path into the valley.
