"Bikepacking" means traveling by bike.
You'll be traveling primarily off-road and on off-road roads, keeping your luggage to a minimum.
You'll store your gear in special bikepacking bags that are attached to the entire bike.
So, the less luggage, the better ;-)
The best thing is: Bikepacking works with any bike!
In most cases, a gravel bike is used.
But it's important that you feel comfortable and that your bike, whether it's a mountain bike, road bike, gravel bike, or e-bike, is tailored to your needs. After all, you can't just swap bikes while you're on the go. 😉
Tip: If you have the opportunity, test out a few different types of bikes beforehand to find the perfect one for you.
The perfect bikepacking gear is essential!
When bikepacking, you pack your gear in backpacks, saddlebags, and handlebar bags.
If you're planning a multi-day gravel tour, you'll obviously need to think carefully about what you'll take with you.
Important: Your bike should still be relatively light and narrow enough for trails after packing.
But don't panic! We show you the basics that definitely belong on your bikepacking packing list in our YouTube video.
Your first bike tour is coming up?
Our tip: Take it easy and start with a short tour.
It's best to use well-maintained forest roads or wide hiking trails at first, where you can get used to everything. 😉
At least roughly plan a route to start with - as nice as the idea of just going for it may be.
Over time, however, you'll gain more experience and then have more freedom in planning your route - I promise!
No car? We reward you!
If you stay at one of the Explorer Hotels on your trip, you'll even save 10% on your stay.
You can also benefit from these advantages if you arrive by train.
You'll also save yourself the extra luggage like a tent and sleeping bag.
Good to know: You can take your bike with you on most trains without any problems.
