Oberstdorf is a center of Nordic winter sports. World Cups and world championships are not only held here regularly. The trails and cross-country skiing conditions here in the Oberallgäu region are simply top-notch.
The most snow-sure trails can be found in Rohrmoos and Balderschwang. Both areas are considered snow holes, and the trails here are the first to be groomed and last the longest.
The trails in the Oberstdorf Cross-Country Ski Stadium can be snowed if necessary. If daylight isn't enough for you, you can glide on illuminated trails in Oberstdorf and Fischen.
The difficulty of the cross-country ski trails varies; while the Oberstdorf Circuit and the trails in Fischen have no climbs, the trails in the villages involve some ups and downs. All cross-country skiing enthusiasts will also find great trails for both classic and freestyle skiing in Kleinwalsertal. A trip to Bad Hindelang and Hinterstein is also worthwhile, as they, too, offer great trails for every cross-country skiing taste.
Cross-country skiing is a fantastic all-body sport, and it's always possible to get started. In Oberstdorf and the surrounding area, you'll find trial sessions and trained instructors who will teach you the freestyle or skating technique. You can easily rent the appropriate equipment on site.
