Skiing in the Kitzbühel Alps: St. Johann in Tirol
Skiing on the Kitzbüheler Horn: Ski instructor Flo takes you to the St. Johann in Tirol ski area and checks out the slopes!
Ski instructor Flo welcomes you from the Explorer Hotel Kitzbühel in St. Johann in Tirol. He has stored his skis in the heated sports locker overnight. After a varied breakfast, the ski instructor prepares your skis at the workbench in the Explorer Lounge, and then your day of skiing begins.
It all starts at the Harschbichl valley station. The cable car is just a few minutes' walk away, or you can take the ski bus, which departs directly from the Explorer Hotel Kitzbühel in St. Johann in Tirol.
The Harschbichl cable car, with a view of the Wilder Kaiser, takes you up to the Harschbichl, below the Kitzbüheler Horn. Reaching an elevation of just under 1,600 meters, Flo tries out the first slope towards Eichenhof. A slope with two options for skiing: either towards the Jodlalm chairlift or down into the valley to Eichenhof.
From Eichenhof, it's back up again. The ski area has 9 lifts, extends across the towns of St. Johann, Eichenhof, and Oberndorf, offers 40 kilometers of slopes, and 18 different places to stop for refreshments. The St. Johann in Tirol ski area is located on the snow-sure side of the Kitzbüheler Horn in the Kitzbühel Alps.
With a stunning view of the Wilder Kaiser in the Kitzbühel Alps, Flo skis down the next slope to the Jodlalm chairlift. The Jodlalm chairlift takes you back up and they try out slope 5 to St. Johann.
The ski instructor stops at the Harschbichlalm for lunch. Afterwards, you head down the red slope 6. The Penzing chairlift takes you back up.
By the way, you can not only ski in the St. Johann in Tirol ski area, but also go ski touring. For this, there's the Dynafit Ski Touring Park with three signposted routes.
Once at the top, Flo tests out the black piste 7. The piste is significantly steeper than the previous runs. With a view of the Wilder Kaiser, the descent continues towards Oberndorf.
Flo summarizes his experience of the St. Johann in Tirol ski area. Skiing in the St. Johann ski area is ideal for families, as it has predominantly blue and red slopes. For a challenging ski experience, there's the black piste 7.
