Perfect day trip for vertigo-free explorers to the Hoher Ifen in Kleinwalsertal during your Allgäu vacation
This tour is only recommended for those with a head for heights, as you'll have to overcome a steep ascent over a section secured by a wire rope.
After parking your car at the Auenhütte in Kleinwalsertal (approx. 20 minutes from the hotel), a short cable ride takes you to the mountain station at the Ifenhütte.
From the Ifenhütte, follow the signposted path toward Ifenmulde until it branches off at a spring, then turn left.
Now, the trail climbs in several switchbacks through scree until you reach a path secured by a wire rope.
This trail takes you up to the Ifen Plateau. From there, it takes about half an hour to reach the summit at approximately 2,232 meters.
There are two options for the return journey: You can either take the same route as for the ascent, or you can descend via the Ifersguntalpe and Schwarzwasserhütte, returning to your starting point.
However, there are some sections here that require ropes. If you are unsure, choose the same route as for the ascent.
