Touring Trail for Beginners in Carinthia
Learn the important basics of touring step by step in a safe environment. You'll have the perfect opportunity to do this during your vacation at the Explorer Hotel Bad Kleinkirchheim.
Since ski touring involves leaving the secured ski area and moving into open alpine terrain, you should be able to use an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel. It's also important that you have a good understanding of avalanche safety and always check the avalanche report before starting a tour.
Properly walking with skins under your skis and the other bindings also requires some practice. Therefore, the trail has been divided into six sections. It runs through the Sonntagstal valley and is located away from the secured ski slope.
- At the first station, you must first memorize the tour, check the snow depth, and then check your emergency equipment.
- Here, you must check the avalanche warning level and perform a beep check with the avalanche transceivers.
- At station three, you should get a feel for proper walking with skins and test how the climbing aid works and how the different levels feel.
- Since you will occasionally have to change direction, station four will practice correct direction changes on flat and moderately steep terrain. You must also be able to change direction confidently on steep terrain.
- At station five, you will practice hairpin turns. This might be a little more difficult at first, but after a few attempts, you'll get the hang of it.
- Now, on to the last stop. Here, you'll take off your skins and get ready for the descent. But before you plunge into the powder fun, you first need to check out the descent options.
Then nothing stands in the way of your descent. The nature trail is available to you free of charge. You can also book a mountain guide at any time, who will explain all the steps in detail and guide you safely through your first ski touring experience.
