Road bike tour to Lake Pillersee in the Kitzbühel Alps

From the Explorer Hotel in St. Johann, first cycle through the town towards the hospital and train station. At the roundabout, turn right and continue to the underpass, after which you should watch for the left-turn lane to the airport. After crossing the railway tracks, turn right onto the cycle path to Fieberbrunn. The tour then takes you a few kilometers along the Hochkönig federal highway (B 164) past the town center of Fieberbrunn and the cable cars. Then turn right towards Walchau/Dandlerau and continue on a gentle incline to the "Eiserne Hand" inn.

There, turn left onto a gentle incline to Hochfilzen. Here you can marvel at the Biathlon World Cup venue even in summer. In the town center, keep left after the underpass and drive through the Warmingtal valley on a narrow road to St. Ulrich. Here you have reached your destination. You should definitely take a break and enjoy the magnificent panorama around Lake Pillersee. Or do you dare to jump into the cool water?

The return journey leads along the country road back to Waidring and then for about 8 km on the B 178 towards St. Johann. In Erpfendorf (Steinbacher Dämmstoffe factory), turn right onto the country road towards Kössen. After crossing the bridge over the Großache River (approx. 1 km), keep left onto the old state road to St. Johann.

Our tip: If you still have the energy, you can extend this road bike tour and continue to Kitzbühel (about 20 km more). To do this, continue from St. Johann to Weitau and the agricultural college there. Then turn left onto the side road to Oberndorf and over the Rerobichl and Reith to Kitzbühel. A visit to Kitzbühel's old town or the Streif downhill run is worthwhile.
