The starting point of this gravel tour is the Explorer Hotel Zillertal. From Kaltenbach, you'll follow the Zillertal Cycle Path to Lake Achensee. In total, you'll be on the Zillertal Cycle Path for approximately 18km.
The cool thing is, it's almost impossible to get lost on this tour - everything is perfectly signposted.
You'll now continue along the Inn River for a short stretch before the steep climb with a gradient of up to 16% awaits you! The climb can be quite challenging, but no wonder, since this route is a toboggan run in winter!
The tour to the south side of Lake Achensee is approximately 25 kilometers long, with a gain of approximately 550 meters. If that's not enough for you, you can continue towards the east side of the lake. However, a circular tour around Lake Achensee is not possible. This means you'll follow the same route back home.
You should definitely pack your swimsuit, because both Lake Schlitters and Lake Achensee are great places to cool off!
PS: You won't be the only one who'll be out of breath on this route; there's also an old steam locomotive next to it. If all else fails, you can always cheat the 7km up to Lake Achensee! 😉
