Description of the road bike tour over the Timmelsjoch to St. Leonhard
After starting in Sölden at the Freizeit Arena, the route heads south along the main road. For the first few kilometers after Sölden, before reaching Zwieselstein, the Venter Valley is left on the right.
With gradients of up to 13 percent, the route continues to Obergurgl, where the actual Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road begins. It leads via Hochgurgl, passes the toll booth, and drops another 150 meters into the Timmelsbach Valley. From there, the route continues with six hairpin bends and a gradient of around ten percent to the Timmelsjoch. The view here certainly makes up for some of the pain ;)
On the Italian side, the route then descends to the roundabout in St. Leonhard, where you take the first exit. A quick detour to one of the pizzerias or inns is worthwhile. The route now continues through the towns of Breiteben and Platt to Moos, where it returns to the High Alpine Road. The return route to Sölden is now identical to the outward route.
