Cutting your first lines in untouched powder snow – a dream that comes true in the Ötztal Valley: At the Explorer Freeride Camp from March 3rd to 5th, Klaus Kranebitter, an experienced mountain guide, will take up to eight participants into the open terrain and demonstrate how to achieve perfect turns off-piste.
In addition to the fun, safety is also a priority: How do I react in the event of an avalanche? What are the benefits of an avalanche transceiver? How do I use a shovel and probe correctly? In practical sessions and theory workshops, freeriders learn what's important in an emergency – including snow science. Anyone who wants to participate should be able to safely navigate groomed runs and have some deep snow experience.
After a day in the snow, visitors relax in the Explorer Sport Spa and share their experiences over dinner. The camp costs from €529 per person and includes two days of coaching, two nights' accommodation including breakfast, packed lunches, dinner, and use of the Sport Spa.
Freeride skis with bindings and skins are required; safety equipment is available for a fee. Incidentally, the ten Explorer Hotels serve as base camps for active, environmentally conscious mountain vacationers and are the first passive house hotels in Europe.
