Cross-country skiing with a glacier view? You can experience it here at an altitude of around 2,600 meters . The high-altitude trail at Gamsgarten takes you right into the heart of the wintery mountain world of the Stubai Glacier and is therefore anything but your usual loop in the valley.
Take the glacier cable car up to the Gamsgarten mountain station at around 2,620 meters . There, you strap on your cross-country skis and start directly on the approximately 2 km long loop . The trail leads past the children's area, makes a large loop, and brings you back to the starting point. In between: snow, high Stubai peaks, and plenty of panoramic views.
The route itself is short, but thanks to some small climbs and especially the altitude, it's still quite challenging. At over 2,600 meters, you quickly notice the air getting thinner. Perfect if you're not looking for an endless distance, but rather a brisk cross-country skiing session with a true high-alpine feel.
Psst: Especially on high-altitude cross-country ski trails, it's worth checking the current conditions before heading up. After heavy snowfall or storms, the grooming can change. The tourism association recommends contacting the information office at the Stubai Glacier directly to find out about the trail status.
