Directions and hike to the suspension bridge at the Olpererhütte in Tyrol
You're probably familiar with the picture of the suspension bridge with a mountain lake and hut in the background, which you often see on Instagram: This is at the Olpererhütte in the Zillertal Alps, above the Schlegeis reservoir. How high is the Olpererhütte? The hut is at 2,389 m. The Schlegeis reservoir is at 1,782 m.
Directions to the starting point of the hike to the Olpererhütte
The starting point for the hike to the Olpererhütte is the parking lot at the Schlegeis reservoir. To get there, you take the Schlegeis Alpine Road, which is only open during the summer months. From the parking lot at the reservoir, it's about an hour and a half's walk to the mountain hut.
By public transport, take the Zillertalbahn from the Explorer Hotel Zillertal to Mayrhofen and change at the train station to the bus to the Schlegeisspeicher.
Olpererhütte for soaking up the sun, as a stopover, or for an overnight stay
On the Olpererhütte's sun terrace, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Zillertal Alps and fortify yourself with fine Tyrolean delicacies.
Of course, you can also spend the night at the hut and continue your journey the next day.
Did you know? The Olpererhütte is a Category 1 mountain hut and ideal for groups and families. Furthermore, the hut is located directly below the massive Olperer (3,476 m), the third highest peak in the Zillertal Alps - so you can enjoy some sun all day long in summer.
From the Olperer Hut, there is a magnificent view across the lake to the Zillertal Alpine ridge with the Schlegeiskee glacier field and the ice-capped peaks of Hochfeiler, Großer Möseler, Hoher Weißzint, and Hochferner.
By the way, the second stage of the Berliner Höhenweg leads directly past the Olperer Hut with its suspension bridge.
