King Ludwig's House in the Wetterstein Mountains
Does the mention of King Ludwig II probably immediately bring to mind the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle? Okay, the Royal House at Schachen might only come close to that. Nevertheless, you should visit it during your vacation on the Zugspitze.
The Royal House at Schachen is located at an altitude of 1,866 meters below the Dreitorspitze. And from here, you have an incredible view of the Wetterstein Mountains.
You can reach Schachen via the Royal Trail from the hiking car park in Elmau. This hike takes about 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can also hike from Partenkirchen via the Partnach Gorge into the Reintal Valley and then up to Schachen.
After the tour of the Royal House, you can also visit the Botanical Alpine Garden. With approximately 1,000 different flowers, it's a real attraction, not just for botany enthusiasts ;D
Daily guided tours (11:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m.)
Fun fact: King Ludwig II celebrated his birthday every year on August 25th in his royal palace on Schachen. Just a side note.
